Before Mindy reported to me, I’d already had the opportunity to see how she worked through internal design guild initiatives. Even at that point, her work stood out. It wasn’t just the quality of the output, but the way she approached problems. She showed real initiative, strong judgement, and a clear commitment to human-centred design. It was obvious she cared deeply about the work and about doing it properly.
When the opportunity came up for me to add a new designer to the team, I didn’t hesitate in asking her to join. From there, we worked closely together on a zero-to-one product for the company, which was the first genuinely new digital product Coates had taken on since 2016. It was complex, ambiguous work, and the expectations were high.
Throughout that time, Mindy consistently impressed me with how she thought about design. She has a strong ability to step back, frame the right problem, and then work through solutions in a considered and deliberate way. More than once, she helped set the bar for what good looked like, not just in the work itself, but in the thinking behind it.
One of Mindy’s real strengths is her independence. She needs very little hand-holding. If you give her clear context and boundaries, she can be relied on to take ownership and deliver. Mindy was an essential member of our UI Design team at a time where we were short-staffed and pretty busy – life would have been much more difficult without her help.Mindy brought a great work ethic to her position at Farm. She worked quickly and multitasked effectively, which was important as she was a key resource on concurrent client projects. She was able to adapt to the changing nature of the work day to day (and sometimes hour to hour) and would put in extra effort when necessary to get a deliverable out the door. We rapidly built confidence in her ability to work independently and turn in quality results with minimal supervision.Mindy was a valuable contributor on all of the projects she was involved in while at Farm. She showed the ability to navigate complex problems, address interaction details, and come up with solid solutions.
